Do I need medical clearance before I begin exercising? Are there reasons I should stop exercising during my pregnancy?

Yes, your medical provider does need to give you clearance to exercise throughout your pregnancy. At each appointment with your medical provider, make sure to keep him/her aware of your exercise activity.

There are many reasons why some pregnant women shouldn't exercise, naming, but not limited to, incompetent cervix, IUGR (Intrauterine growth restrictions), High Blood Pressure, premature labor, and persistent bleeding. And, while you are exercising, if you experience any problems with dizziness, abdominal pain or cramping, contractions, bleeding or anything else that doesn't feel right, discontinue and contact your physician immediately. Remember to always listen to your body.
